Braves fire four goals past Ryton & Crawcrook

By Andrew McDonnell (@AndrewSJourno)

Sam Norris scored on his debut for Blyth AFC, who thrashed Ryton & Crawcrook Albion 4-0 at Kingsley Park.

Ryan McGorrigan and David Robinson gave the Braves, who dominated the first 45 minutes, a two-goal lead going into half-time.

An own goal from Ben Shaw, just before the hour mark, and Norris’ strike 10 minutes later wrapped up the points for Blyth in the second half.

The Braves go into Saturday’s FA Vase game with West Allotment Celtic off the back of a win, and will be looking for their first victory in the competition.

Mick Connor and Andy Bowman’s side were edged out by Heaton Stannington on Saturday, and introduced new signings Jake Armitage into the starting line-up.

Bobby Taylor drove wide of the goal on seven minutes, and Blyth made their next chance count, on 18 minutes.

McGorrigan broke into the area, and his initial shot was saved by Darren Houghton, but the wide man was first to the rebound and prodded home.

Norris flicked on McGorrigan’s cross just wide of the post just before the half hour mark, and the Braves doubled their lead on 34 minutes.

Robinson picked up the ball around 25-yards out, and after making room for himself, the skipper rifled the ball into the top corner.

Ben Richardson, McGorrigan and Bobby Taylor all went close to adding a third in the final 10 minutes of the half, but the visitors had a comfortable two-goal lead at the break.

The Braves picked up where they left off, and they asserted their dominance just before the hour mark.

McGorrigan’s low cross was turned into his own net by Shaw on 59 minutes, and the visitors didn’t look back from there.

Ryton had their first chance of the game five minutes later, Liam Anderson’s long-range effort was gathered by Chris Bannon.

However, the Braves added a fourth goal on 69 minutes as Norris knocked the ball round the defender before lashing into the roof of the net – opening his goal-scoring account on his debut.

Liam Gillesphey fired over the bar before Harry Mitchell and Sam Moore went close to adding a consolation goal for the hosts in the closing five minutes.
