The Buildbase FA Vase – First Round Qualifying

Venue: Sandringham Drive, South Newsham, Blyth, Northumberland, NE24 3PS

Date: Saturday, September 9, 2017

Kick-Off: 12:00pm

Updates: @BlythAFC

Blyth AFC are set to play their second ever game in the Buildbase FA Vase on Saturday, as they play host to West Allotment Celtic in the First Round Qualifying.

The Braves were knocked out at this stage last season by Ryton & Crawcrook Albion, and they’re certainly looking to go one step further this time around.

Mick Connor and Andy Bowman, who won the FA Vase as part of North Shields’ backroom staff back in 2015, lead their side into battle against a side they’ve already met this season.

Allotment will be no pushovers, but Blyth have made a whole host of changed to their squad since this time last year.

The two sides met for the first time at the end of August, and the game finished 1-1, but both teams will be looking to get the first win over one another in this fixture.

The winner will be away to either Whickham or Newton Aycliffe, who play on Friday night, in the Second Round Qualifying.

Team News

New signings Sam Norris and Jake Armitage are eligible to play in the Buildbase FA Vase and will be in the squad for the game.

As for the rest of the squad, it’s unchanged from the side that won 4-0 away to Ryton & Crawcrook Albion through the week.

The Manager’s View

Joint-manager Andy Bowman said: “We welcome West Allotment to Blyth on Saturday, in what will be another tough game.

“We played them not long ago at their new home, Druid Park, in a game where both teams didn’t play the 4G pitch very well.

“The competition is close to my heart and I know everyone goes into this competition thinking they have a chance of getting to Wembley. Why? Cause they certainly have!

“Ten games to win from this stage and you are at Wembley. Simple? If only!”
